The reason may be your job might not be enough to cover all your monthly expenses. Thus, prices of food and other grocery items are getting more expensive.

Moms who have no jobs and were left at home find ways to earn extra income. They don’t want to be more dependent with their husbands who work abroad and just wait for them to send money. Not anymore! They took advantage of what the internet offers for those individuals, not just moms, who could not afford to leave their house because of their personal responsibilities. Blogging is one of the most effective ways to earn income online. You may either open a blog account or create a website and start monetizing their works. Once done creating a blog or website, you may put advertisements on it. When people visit your site and clicks on the ads, you will earn from it.

Sendong brought Bloody Christmas

Very Tragic. Very Sad. Filipinos are mourning for those who died during the typhoon Sendong. There’s no way those victims can happily celebrate their Christmas this year. They considered their Christmas as “bloody Christmas”. Over 1000 people have already been declared dead due to the wrath of typhoon Sendong that struck in the Visayas and Mindanao areas in the Philippines. The most affected areas are in Cagayan de Oro, Iligan City and Dumaguete City. Bodies that have been found were already brought to their families and buried.  A mass burial was conducted for those bodies that were unidentified. Thousands are still missing until now. Some bodies were found floating at the sea.

Houses were swept away by the strong floods; bridges were destroyed; and families became hopeless as days go by without any news if their other family members are still alive.

Thousands of survivors are still struggling in the evacuation centres because of lack of food, water, medicine, blankets and other necessities. Children are starting to get sick because of the poor sanitation in the evacuation centre.

Government officials and agencies are already doing their best to help those victims. If you want to help them please do so. Let’s rebuild their hope by helping them and offering prayers for them.

Celebrating New Year in the Philippines

In the Philippines, celebrating New Year is considered one of the most important holidays for the Filipinos. Various traditions have been practiced when colonizers and neighbouring countries influenced our Filipino ancestors.

It all starts every December 31st or the New Years Eve which Filipino families gather together at home and celebrate a midnight meal called Media Noche. There will be lots and lots of food prepared in the dining table to share with. Filipinos never missed serving 12 different round and sweet fruits in the table. These fruits signify luck for the next twelve months for the family. The usual fruits are apples, oranges, melon, grapes, watermelons, chicos, peaches, guavas, etc. Some Filipino families sometimes serve 12 hard boiled eggs and noodles which they believed a symbol for long life.

One of the main highlights in celebrating New Year is the display of colourful and deafening variety of fireworks. As the clock strikes 12:00 midnight, everybody jumps, sings, dances, and makes noise to celebrate the New Year. The sky would be filled with colourful display of fireworks. These things are believed to be a symbol to drive away bad spirits. Also they wear polka dots dresses which symbolize money.

Some Filipinos celebrate their New Year together with their friends and neighbours. Other practices in some communities would hold a street dance or parade. They wear different kinds of costumes.

The celebration continues on January 1. No matter how the New Year is celebrated, what matters really most is the thought of happiness and togetherness in welcoming the New Year.

(Photo: My current location using Google Maps in my phone)

Article 1 in the 1987 Philippine Constitution defines the National Territory of the Philippines
"The national territory comprises the Philippine archipelago, with all the islands and waters embraced therein, and all other territories over which the Philippines has sovereignty or jurisdiction, consisting of its terrestrial, fluvial and aerial domains, including its territorial sea, the seabed, the subsoil, the insular shelves, and other submarine areas. The waters around, between, and connecting the islands of the archipelago, regardless of their breadth and dimensions, from part of the internal waters of the Philippines."

The Constitution clearly defines what consist in the Philippine archipelago. All in all there are 7,107 islands in the Philippines and it is divided into three island groups: Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao.

One of the captivating features in the Philippines is its tropical rainforests that covers most of its mountainous areas.  It is a home of various species of birds, plants, and other land creatures. Its bodies of waters are also extensive that it produces diverse and unique marine life. There many beautiful coral reefs and different species of fish that can be found in the Philippines.
